Makeup
A lot of people say that makeup makes someone fake. I guess in most cases these days, there is a lot of evidence to back it up.
I wear makeup, but not too much. I use eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara. Of course, there is always lotion and powder as a standard. I’m not really the type who wears a bunch of foundation to cover all the little details of my face. I feel like makeup should be used to enhance your natural beauty, not change your face so much that it deceives people.
So why do I wear makeup? I wear eye makeup once a week and maybe just mascara a couple times a week. I don’t wear it because I’m insecure. I wear it for fun! I like making my eyes pop. I like playing with eye shadow colors and doing different shapes with eyeliner. This isn’t to impress anyone or my way of accepting society’s rules. It’s just me who likes to play around! I have plenty of lazy days, a couple a week actually, but I really don’t care about what people think about me. If you think I’m weird, that’s ok, I totally respect your opinion. I can find people who like me just the way I am and I feel like sometimes, people forget that.
Just as how drawing or painting is seen as artistic, I feel like wearing makeup is an art. It can change a person so drastically. The only thing I don’t like about makeup is that people use it increase their self esteem. They look in the mirror and pick out all the things they don’t like and try to do everything in their power to change what they see. Even after all the changes they do, they are still not satisfied. I feel like people are so influenced by media and the idea of being “perfect” that they don’t step back and think about what they’re doing.
The society we live in emphasizes so much on looks and figure. It drives people to the edge causing anorexia, bulimia, cosmetic surgery, etc. Is this really necessary? Why can’t we just accept people for who they are?
